ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION AND COVID 19

There has been a growing concern about environmental pollution especially during this pandemic. It has been observed that not many people care about pollution during such a crisis. This crisis shouldn’t be a reason to neglect nature, if anything we should be more concerned.

Tonnes of medical waste have been produced during this pandemic and not many are observing proper disposal. Walking down the street you’ll find masks and gloves thrown on sidewalks, rivers and sewers; this could pose a great hazard as they are medical wastes and are meant to be disposed carefully. Remember, such careless disposal could be a potential threat to wildlife especially marine life.

Such wastes should be incinerated, but due to unavailability of such equipment in a home setting, it’s advisable to throw them in a bin immediately after use and avoid throwing on floors or mixing with laundry at all costs.

Homemade masks or reusable masks works as well because they are reusable and readily available. In such a case where medical grade masks are in limited supply, it’s better to use reusable masks. Remember to wash properly after use.

If you are using single-use masks, make sure you dispose it properly after using it and remember to NOT reuse it. For more guidelines on how to properly wear and safely dispose medical masks, visit WHO website.

Let’s learn to respect nature!!!!!
